This video of my 15 month old son Korbin Michael jammin out during breakfast to “I Like To Move It” from the movie Madagascar 2, originally from a band called Reel 2 Real, explains it all! If I had a 9-5 I would have missed this precious moment… I LOVE WORKING FROM HOME!!!

What I love the most about this video is how fascinated he is by seeing himself on the screen of my MacBook. If you’ll notice he’ll start getting into it then stop, look at his hands and then start jammin’ again LOL!!

A Custom Blog Install… Now That’s A Horse Of A Different Color!

A custom blog install is the best way to make your blog stand out from the rest. If you’ve never thought about learning a few little tricks that will “personify” your WordPress Theme you may want to reconsider. Here are a few examples where I’ve taken a standard WordPress Theme, made a few little tweaks and viola! Something completely new and refreshing!

The below screen capture is a custom install I just finished up for Kenneth Yu, The Puppet Master. He wanted me to install a theme called Thesis and when I installed it I nearly spit coffee all over my computer screen; it was so plain and boring and if left alone would look like every other plain, boring blog out there using a non-customized Thesis Theme.

Pretty boring huh?

Now here is what Kenneth Yu’s blog looks like after I did my magic. I’m sure you’ll agree it looks MUCH better, has a more personable feeling to it and certainly doesn’t look like every blog using the Thesis Theme!…

Don’t worry, I’m not going to simply show you how much better a customized blog install looks and then tell you to have a great day. The following screen captures will show you how to locate the code within the stylesheet and customize the background color of your blog so go ahead and login into your WordPress blog and let’s get started…

Once you’re logged in click the “Design” tab in the upper left hand corner…
Under the design tab click “Theme Editor”…
Now scroll your computer screen all the way down to the bottom…

(Click The Link Highlighted In Light Blue)

The stylesheet is where you’ll make all of your custom changes so click it so we can continue and then check out the following screen capture to see where you can add the new color code.

(If The Background Code Isn’t There Just Add It… That’s What It Says In Red)

I hope this post has been educational and helpful! Please stop by again when I post about adding headers to a regular WordPress Theme… But realize that the process will be completely different with other themes. So if you have any questions about the theme YOUR using, simply leave a comment and I’ll reply to it and help ya out! The good news is once you get an eye for the stylesheet you’ll be able to customize any WordPress Theme!

Twitter, I Hear It’s A Waste Of Time!

Twitter is anything but “a waste of time” when used correctly and I’m not saying that loosely. Twitter is EXTREMELY addictive and has at times eaten up large portions of my day (when I first discovered the site). If you’ve made that a common practice even after the curiosity/honeymoon phase has passed then yes, Twitter is a waste of time and you should stop using it immediately.

But if you’ve been hearing about it and just haven’t gotten around to creating one, well, this just may be the kick in the buns you’ve been needing :)!

Here is a screen capture of the Twitter home page.

Once your account is activated it would be a good idea to utilize the background of your Twitter profile and advertise your blogs, sales pages, any social sites you’re a member of like Facebook etc.; anything you want the world to know about, add to the background and here’s how ya do it!

When you’re logged in you’ll see a small section in the upper right hand corner that says things like “Home”, “Profile”…

The section we’re going to concentrate on in this post is the “Settings” option. Instead of typing out every single thing you’ll find on this page I’ll just insert a screen capture of what page you’ll be taken to once you click “Settings”…

While you’re here you may as well fill in your information. Once you’ve completed that, save it and go to the upper right and click the “Design” tab so you can either pick a template they have made available to you or you can upload a custom background which is what I recommend if you have something to advertise.

There are a two directions you can go here.

Use one of the backgrounds they have created and look like the thousands of other Twitter users out there… OR
You can create your own background while advertising or branding yourself at the same time so you stick out. Sometimes being the black sheep is a good thing!

You also have the choice of whether or not you’d like to “Tile” the background which means repeat the image until it covers the entire background. I prefer to not tile the background and place my information in one centralized area. Check out the following screen capture of my Twitter profile to see what I’m talking about.

Now I’d like to point out three things about the above screen cap…

Notice the URLs on the left I’d like everyone who visits my page to see. Believe it or not it’s quality traffic. People wouldn’t be following my Tweets if they weren’t interested in what i have to say, right?
Also notice the Avatar I’m using that everyone sees when I add something to the Twitter time line… It’s bright, different, easy to remember and pops out at you when you see it. But I also have a real picture of myself for those who are interested in seeing my mug or need to know that I’m a real person not Mr. Roboto…
And finally… Yes! That’s the real MCHammer! How cool is that?!?!?! MC Hammer is following me on Twitter!
